Margaret
is an Honours Graduate, First Class (Fine Art) of Gray's School of
Art (Robert Gordon University) in Aberdeen. She also holds an honours degree in
Science and Environmental Technology from the University of Paisley. Her work
has been exhibited in many locations, including Aberdeen Art Gallery, The
Collins Gallery (Glasgow), Kelvingrove Art Gallery (Glasgow) and The Royal
Scottish Academy (Edinburgh). She has been a prize winner in a number of
significant art competitions.
Margaret’s
art is often large scale, complex and multi layered, including handmade models
and reflecting varying depths of reality. Her textured pieces are concerned
with the interactions between people’s fluid personas and their encountered
environments, both perceived and actual. Margaret uses humour and irony to
ask questions. Her art forces us to confront current issues in politics,
religion and morality. Margaret said "I always start with a central idea
and a basic structure, but the process of creation introduces its own shifts,
tangents, complexities and connections. I wish for clarity; however it’s usually
a case of clinging on to my initial emotional response to the topic I am
exploring. Sometimes it feels like I might drown in the many possible solutions
and hope that when I do surface with something that it at the very least
reflects my journey".
